Zambia Fashion Week and regular Beauty Zambia model Mwaba (Foster) Chewe was off to Ghana last month to represent Zambia in the Face of the Universe model search contest.
The Face of the Universe pageant seeks to identify “that universal face, height, body, elegance, poise, attitude,” said Adwoa Sarpoongmaa, chief executive of the event.
The search has been organised in partnership with Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism as one of the events to mark Ghana’s 50th Independence celebrations as well as the worldwide celebrations of 200 years of the abolition of slavery.
“We are inviting the world to this special occasion in Ghana’s history and giving the opportunity to other countries the world over to come and celebrate with us”, said Sarpoongmaa.
Mwaba, together with the other contestants in the model search were invited to State House to celebrate the birthday of the president of Ghana and during the two weeks leading to the finals, contestants had an opportunity to visit all the major tourist attractions in the country. They will leave Ghana as that country’s tourism ambassadors.
Top models from all corners of the world converged on Ghana to participate in the inaugural model search, with more than 45 countries being represented from Latin America, the USA, Canada, Australia, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
In addition to Zambia, African countries being represented include Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, and Sudan.
Mwaba’s trip to the Face of the Universe model search was organised and sponsored by Perryfield Promotions, the organisers of Miss Zambia UK Beauty Pageant in London, in partnership with Chronis Entertainment of Lusaka.

I can’t wait very month to get my hands on the latest copy of Beauty Zambia. And I have to say that I wasn’t disappointed in December’s issue.
The colours just jump off the page – it makes me happy just looking at it.
I also thought the health article on HIV was particularly appropriate, given that it was World AIDS Day.
