COMMENT

There’s a competitive streak in the air this month as skilled and beautiful women battle it out for a chance to be judged the best.
Zambia’s hope, Mirriam Jaulani, has made it through to the final of the Nokia Face of Africa contest; Ten hopefuls have been selected from 135 entries for the final of the Miss Zambia contest, and ten of the country’s best hairdressers will be aiming to style their way to success at the Soft-Sheen Carson Golden Scissors Award this month.
Of course, those that didn’t make it to the finals, or don’t win the top prize will be disappointed, but all should rejoice in the spirit of competition.
There’s nothing wrong with believing in yourself, and believing you’re the best in your field.
We need more women to strive for excellence rather than settle for mediocrity, so celebrate your talents and tell the world how wonderful you are!
And we don’t mean just in beauty pageant and hairdressing competitions. Life is full of opportunities to prove yourself, whether it’s in your work, family life or among friends.
You don’t have to make others feel second best, just prove to yourself and others that you can do it.
Good luck to all contestants this month.

Greetings to all of you at Beauty Towers and thanks a lot for a good magazine. My name is Memory, I am 16 years old and luckily I got to read issue 7 of your magazine. It was nice to read something Zambian that had nothing to do with politics for a change.
You see I’ve always wanted to come out of a magazine and having read your magazine it’s now become my dream to come out of your magazine, not really because I’m very cute. All that I really want is to come out of your mag. Please help me make my dream come true.
Yours hopefully,
Memory Chirwa,
Lusaka.
