ISSUE: q107 04/03/07 The Local Authorities Superannuation Fund is seeking consultants or financial advisers to deal with K89 million of unpaid pension contributions. The fund, which provides pension cover to employees in ZESCO, water companies, the National Housing Authority and all 72 councils in the country, has invited expressions of interest from parties able to help recover and/or restructure the debts owed to the fund. The fund is owed in excess of K89 billion in unremitted pension contributions by its member organisations. In this regard, in its five-year strategic plan of 2006/2010, the fund identified recovery of pension contribution arrears through various options and strategies as one of the major objectives aimed at enhancing the financial position in order to meet obligations to its members and stake holders, said the fund in its call for submissions to the Zambia National Tender Board, which were due by February 23. Eligible consultants and financial advisers were required to provide a detailed company profile and have experience and qualifications in debt management and recovery strategies. The terms of reference included an exchange of the debt for equity, a discounted cash value, or security instruments such as bonds, and other mechanisms deemed appropriate. Date: q107 |
