The head of the industry watchdog Pensions and Insurance Authority, Chris Mapipo, has urged practitioners to join the Insurance Institute of Zambia.
“Let me take this opportunity to inform and encourage all practitioners in the industry, that is underwriters, claims handlers, insurance brokers, insurance agents, sales executives, pensions administrators and everybody else working in industry-related activities or pursuing insurance courses at the Zambia Insurance Businesses College trust to register as members of the Insurance Institute of Zambia. Membership to the institute has a lot of advantages and the privileges, apart from uplifting your professional standing in the, market as a member of a professional body,” he told delegates at the institute’s recent certificate presentation ceremony in Ndola.
Membership would also enable the industry to compile a database of professionals that would help identify where there were skills gaps and where continuing professional development should be concentrated, he said.
Referring to the institute’s progress on plans to confer associateship on those who complete the advanced national diploma in insurance, and then fellowships after acquiring further experience, Mapipo said: “I wish to challenge the institute to quickly finalise this programme, as it has been long overdue. This, in itself, is a good development that should be supported by all progressive stakeholders in the industry.”
