Change your mindset and perceptions Change your mindset and perceptions

Marketing professionals need to be positioned for broader thinking in order to be relevant to the day-to-day operations of their organisations, according to ZIM first vice-president Billy Wamundila in his opening remarks at the institute’s tenth annual marketing conference.
“This year’s theme goes to show industry that it is time we moved from traditional marketing to live up to the challenges that business poses to marketing practitioners,” said Wamundila, emphasising: “The theme calls for a change in mindset and perception.” He said: “Fellow members of this challenging profession, we have come together from the academia and corporate worlds to exchange views on various marketing and economic fronts that affect our practice and companies.
“This is a reflection, assessment and introspection point and also to look ahead and see how we can contribute to economic development and sustainance of companies in the midst of business challenges stemming from globalisation and e-commerce.” He continued: “The background to this theme is the realisation by the Zambia Institute of Marketing that professionals are involved in a lot of strategic processes that drive business in most organisations.
“It is the institute’s professional belief that these professionals need to be positioned for broader thinking so that they are relevant to the day-to-day operations of organisation.
“Recent trends in economic factors, vis-à-vis the appreciation of the kwacha, interest rates, inflation, exchange rates, corporate transformations and changing customer perceptions and expectations all call for re-strategising.
“This conference will address a number of issues that can help marketers to sharpen skills. Personalities of eminent posture in marketing and industry will make valid presentations to us.”
