Airline launches drive to attract American tourists Airline launches drive to attract American tourists

Regional tourist destinations promoted under new tie-up
South African Airways has launched a “Visit Southern Africa” programme to promote tourism in the region.
The airline plans to offer package deals to Zambia, as well as a South Africa, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, in conjunction with tour operators.
Featured itineries in Zambia include a ten-day “Zambia for the Intrepid Traveller” package from New York to Mfuwe, and a US$5,866 “Zambia Platinum” trip to Busanga Plains and the Kafue National Park.
The plan coincides with SAA’s entry into the Star Alliance customer loyalty programme, and was seen as a way to widen its customer base in the north American market, where the programme was launched.
“The programme will promote southern Africa as one of the most exciting destinations in the world. With the help of our Star Alliance partners, we are excited to introduce our products and services to a new customer base,” said SAA executive vice president Marc Cavaliere.
The countries in the initiative offered a vast spectrum of travel experiences and adventures for the North American visitor, including national and private game reserves teeming with wildlife, unique cultural attractions, plus breathtaking vistas from the beaches and mountains to the spectacular deserts of the Kalahari. World-class sporting venues offer golf, fishing, and white water rafting, as well as a host of adrenaline-pumping adventures, he added.
SAA operates the only non-stop service to South Africa from its Washington, DC gateway and daily wide body departures from New York to Johannesburg, which it is promoting as the gateway to southern Africa. Announcing a link-up with two US tour operators, he said: “Together we intend to position southern Africa among the world’s top adventure travel destinations.”
