ISSUE: q406 01/11/2006 The rugged bush tracks of South Luangwa were the venue for the world’s motor industry press to get a preview of the new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. And as a public relations exercise, the November trip also generated significant press coverage in the overseas media. International journalists and photographers made the trek to road-test the DaimlerChrysler Corporation’s 2007 model, even though several reviewers admitted that most US-based buyers of the car were unlikely to require the kind of off-road ability being offered. “Not even the rugged landscape around Moab, Utah, a playground for American Jeep enthusiasts, can compete with the Luangwa River valley. “A big portion of the 5600-square-mile nature preserve features topography accessible only to the odd klipspringer and elephant (the ultimate off-road vehicle?)—and, of course, the indomitable little Jeep Wrangler,” wrote one reviewer in AutoWeek magazine.
