ISSUE: q406 01/11/2006 The Zambia Institute of Marketing has constituted an advertising standards and ethics committee whose task is to regulate advertising practice in Zambia both in the print and electronic media. This is in response to the increasing need to address the falling standards of advertising in Zambia particularly in the electronic Media on television and radio and also arising from incessant calls on the institute to intervene from various sections of the Zambian community. The Association of Practitioners in Advertising (APA), Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), Press Association of Zambia (PAZA), University of Zambia (UNZA), Evelyn Hone College (EHC), Zambia Institute of Mass Communications (ZAMCOM), Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS), Zambia Competition Commission (ZCC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services are members of the committee. The advertising standards and ethics committee is currently working on an advertising code of practice and ethics that would then be enacted using a statutory instrument under the auspices of the Zambia Institute of Marketing Act No. 14 of 2003.
