01/03/2006 Welcome to the first quarter edition of the Zambian Marketer magazine. We wish to thank all our esteemed readers for your comments and suggestions. As you can observe, we have improved both the content and coverage of especially news from the industry. At the institute, we are very excited to spearhead the Buy Zambian campaign. ZIM was recently appointed to chair the steering committee. Furthermore, we wish to express our gratitude to the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry which is our patron for this gesture which has never happened before in the history of the institute. The executive committee members have now been put into office in all our three branches namely, Lusaka, Kitwe and Ndola/Luanshya. We therefore urge all marketing practitioners in the country to join this bigger family and contribute to the growth of the profession in this country. There is strength in numbers!!! This edition also carries all the papers that were presented at the 2005 annual marketing conference and awards dinner to refresh our memories. Finally, Zambeef Products PLC gives us an insight into how the company is keeping itself afloat in a very competitive environment. Additionally, we profile Dr Juvenalis Tembo, the only PhD holder in marketing that Zambia has ever produced! Please keep sending new product launches, latest innovations etc to our publishers. Good reading, James Chiwala Date: q106
