The Zambia Institute of Marketing endeavours to pursue the highest level of marketing excellence through development of human resources, literature, standards and ethics in the marketing profession with a view to increasing productive efficiency in commerce, trade, industry, government and non-governmental organisations.
The institutes vision is to put Zambia on the world market, through programmes that will market the nation, its goods and services, ideas, people and institutions. This is necessary to meet the challenges in the global markets.
Marketing the key to Prosperity. This is the motto that drives the Zambia Institute of Marketing. Prosperity and success in business can only be achieved if you and your organisation are involved in marketing by being a member of the body that regulates marketing practice and education in the country.
To promote the general advancement of the marketing profession and other allied disciplines in Zambia as well as the region.
To encourage, uphold and improve the standards of training, practice and professional competence of persons involved in marketing in Zambia.
To offer consultancy to various organisations including the government in Zambia.
To hold marketing chats and discussion of papers for continuing professional development (CPD).

Student Member. This category refers to individuals still studying recognised degree and diploma programmes either on a full time or part time basis in a college or university, including private studies (home study). They may not have basic qualifications to obtain other categories of membership. These have to be students in marketing at approved training Institutions.
Graduate Member. This category refers to individuals who hold necessary recognised marketing qualifications at degree and diploma levels for full membership but do not have the required marketing work experience to obtain full membership of the institute.
Associate Member. This refers to individuals who do not hold recognised marketing qualifications or any other accepted qualifications to obtain full membership of the institute but have the relevant marketing experience of a minimum of three years while holding qualifications at degree and diploma levels in other fields.
Full Member. This category refers to individuals with recognised marketing qualifications at degree and diploma levels with minimum of three years of marketing experience in industry and academia.
Fellow. This category refers to individuals who have greatly contributed in the field of marketing in industry and academia. The individuals should have recognised marketing qualifications at degree and diploma levels with a minimum of five years of marketing experience. Fellowship is conferred at the discretion of the Registration Committee. Members may not go into arguments as to why they are not given this category. This is a common practice worldwide.
Corporate Member. This category refers to organisations that are directly involved in the production and provision of products and services to all sectors of the economy. Corporate members have unique benefits. We encourage your organisation to register as Corporate Members.

Employment Bureau. Both corporate and individual members can benefit from the employment bureau that holds curricula vitae from a wide range of marketing experience and allied disciplines.
Website. You can visit the institutes website, www.zim.com.zm, which contains information about the institute, its members and programmes. Corporate members may advertise on this website at a nominal fee.
Library Facilities. Members can also benefit from the resource centre that is located at the secretariat of the institute. This resource centre is equipped with modern literature and materials in marketing beneficial to both marketing practitioners and students.
The Zambia Institute of Marketing Act No. 14 of 2003 provides for the issuance of practising certificates to full members and fellows of the institute signifying their competence in the field of marketing. Employers in industry should now ensure that only registered marketing professionals with practising certificates are engaged for marketing practice. The practising certificates are renewable on an annual basis.
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Attending seminars, workshops, conferences, short courses, marketing chats, in-house company training, higher degree courses constitutes continuing professional development (CPD). This leads to being awarded chartered marketer status by the Chartered Institute of Marketing; to the peak of the marketing profession with two continuous years of continuing professional development (CPD); and to recognition by the Institute of Marketing Management in South Africa (IMM).
