Clare Chona is a self-taught designer who works under her Ubuntu label. She has dressed former Miss Zambia Precious Mumbi, Cynthia Kanema and Cynthia Chikwanda among others.

She got into fashion design by marketing her clothes and making them for free using models and family.

Last year she won the Redd’s African Fashion Design Awards for Zambia, and this year she represented Zambia at the Pan-African Festival in Algeria . 

Her trademark designs use a unique ethnic hand-finished appliqué that is original.

Clare’s inspiration comes from her family, clients and friends.

For this year’s collection she has drawn on themes from Zambian culture and people.

Her ambition is to become “the world’s” top fashion designer.
