Donna M’shanga (Tear Shade Designs)

Donna is based in Lusaka and designs under the Tear Shade Designs label.

She started designing in 2000, sketching and keeping the designs until last December, when she decided to start making clothes.

She did a tailoring and designing course with the Lusaka City Council in 2005 and is currently studying fashion and designing at Evelyn Hone College, which she is due to complete this December.

Donna has also worked with Zambia Fashion Week designer Veronica Sampa and featured in the August issue of Beauty.

She describes her designs as “very creative, simple, feminine and sexy”. She is inspired by beautiful things from plants and sunsets to different cultures of people and landscapes. For her latest collection she has drawn on themes that are colourful, feminine and tenderly wild. Her materials are anything that is beautiful, from chitenges, to satin and organza.

Her ambition is to make Zambian women start appreciating Zambian-made clothes and to be able to represent Zambian fashion on an international market.
