Zambia Fashion Week 2006

Zambia has never seen anything like it – one hundred stunning outfits paraded down the catwalk one after the other in a breath-taking show of the country’s best fashion design talent.

There was standing-room only at the Polo Grill for the glamorous grand finale of the Coca-Cola Light Zambia Fashion Week 2006 as the audience was treated to an extravaganza of style, talent and glamour from the nation’s best designers.

The week-long event was organised by Beauty Zambia magazine an d in this month’s issue we have 12 pages of stunning pictures showing the highlights from all the shows - in case you missed any.
The theme of this year’s Zambia Fashion week was “Be inspired” and it certainly proved to be the case. Anyone who saw the shows couldn’t help but be inspired by the fabulous array of talent.

The finale showcased one hundred of the best outfits from the week, during which a total of more than 200 unique creations were exhibited by Zambia’s greatest models, including Miss Zambia Precious Mumbi, Face of Africa 2005 finalist Mirriam Jaulani and Miss Southern Africa UK Esther Sitali.

Ten designers featured their clothes during Zambia Fashion week – Charity Mwakilima, Dodo Wear, Nada, Clare Chona, Faith Mulenga, Belita de la Court, Trudy Kaumba, Mutinta Maliwa, Coretta Arnold and Jane Osborne. Presenter was Karen Nakawala.

Highlights of Zambia Fashion week included appearances by five lucky women who had auditioned to join the models on the catwalk, including first-time model Rhoda Ng’ambi, and competitions to identify two best-dressed women and men in the audience during the final show, winning prizes provided by Coca-Cola Light and Holiday Inn.

Singer Marsha Moyo and art promotor Muelnga Kapwepwe were among celebrities in the audience who were called upon to present bouquets to designers.

Highlights of Zambia Fashion week included Dodo Wear Designers’ t heatrical shows, which included a small dog and model Esther Sitali carrying a child on her back, and Charity Mwakilima’s surprising use of reeds, twigs and dried flowers in her final outfit.

Zambia Fashion Week was started by Beauty Zambia in 2005, with four designers featuring their work. This year saw that number more than double, and next year promises to be even bigger and better.
Contact details for each of the ten designers are listed on the page of their designs. Give them a call for high-quality original, tailor-made designs.

We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Zambia Fashion Week.
