ZAMBIA HOCKEY WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM DON KALEZA ASTROTURF BOOTS

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Zamshu has stepped up to sponsor the Zambia Hockey Women’s National team as they bid to qualify for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, slated for Birmingham, UK, in July.

The national team, also known as the ‘Golden Girls’ in the local hockey circles, will take part in the Hockey Africa Cup in Ghana between 17 and 24 January 2022, where they will attempt to not only win the cup, but also to qualify for the Commonwealth Games as one of the top two ranked teams.

Zamshu Sales and Marketing Manager, Essau Rubvuta, handed over sponsored pairs of the company’s Kaleza Z-12 Astroturf sports shoe and Kaleza training tops to team Captain, Annie Mvula, at the Zamshu factory in Lusaka.

“It is actually the second time that Zamshu and Kaleza are donating boots for the hockey teams and hopefully it is an association that we will be able to build on. We know that Zambia Hockey has come a long way in the last few years and we are very proud to be a part of that development,” said Zamleather General Manager Richard Franklin.

He stated that Zamshu has always strived to support grassroots sports as they are in need of more support compared to others  such as mainstream football that receive a lot of corporate backing.

“We try to support grassroots sports. We know that football gets a lot of corporate support and as Zamshu and Kaleza, we to look to developing sports and that typically would be grassroots or a minor sport and we feel that those are the sports that need more support. We’ve got a product that fits the bill exactly, our Kaleza Astroturf boots is perfect for hockey and therefore we want our brand to grow along with the brand of hockey in Zambia,” said Mr Franklin.

The Astroturf is a brainchild of Zamshu and was designed and is manufactured locally for the local and regional markets.

Zamshu is proud to be associated with Zambia Hockey Association, having seen the magnificent progress that has been made to revive the sport of hockey in Zambia. The Association’s policy of developing grass roots talent from a young age is translating into success at National level while helping to uplift the youth.

The Zamleather GM sent his best to the team in a voice note saying: “It’s a once in a lifetime experience. We are all so very proud of you to have made it this far. So go and enjoy it, express yourselves and do us proud.”
