Emirates showcases Zambian movies on ice

Customers can browse and pre-select movies from over 1,500 films for a local inflight experience

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Movie fans looking for a wider variety of entertainment aboard Emirates can now watch a choice of locally produced Zambian movies on its award-winning ice inflight entertainment system.

Fans of musicals can immerse themselves in Damyna The Musical, which follows the story of an orphaned girl in rural Zambia torn between two loves. Directed by Peter Langmead, the film tells the story of a young girl rescued by a family friend who brings her up herself. Only her adoptive mother and a witch doctor know the truth. In the village where she lives with her new family, Damyna becomes torn between her love for the boy she grew up with and a handsome stranger.

Action-drama lovers can watch Black Dollar, directed by David Kazadi, which explores a young man’s journey into the criminal underworld. Mateo hustles to make a living, but when the opportunity to scam a local politician presents itself, the temptation is too great to resist.

A more reflective film, Maria Kristu: The Buumba Story, directed by Paul S. Wilo, takes viewers on one woman’s journey of self-discovery. The Zambian drama tells the story of Buumba, an avid follower of the Maria Kristu Church. She has been taught since childhood that her place in this world as a woman is beside her husband. Conflicted between the church’s doctrine and her pursuit to archive her dreams, she finds herself questioning everything.

Emirates, which flies daily direct from Lusaka to Dubai via Harare offers passengers the option to curate their own ice experience before their flight. Passengers can simply browse and pre-select movies or TV shows on the Emirates app, which can then be synced to ice the moment they board, maximising the seamless travel experience.

The syncing capability is currently available on all Emirates Boeing 777 including select A380 aircrafts.

Passengers can also enjoy other top-notch African productions from across the content including Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and South Africa.

In addition to entertainment, Emirates ice offers a range of other practical features, such as checking the status of the flight while en route; a real-time view of the sky during take-off and landing from cameras that are fixed on the aircraft’s nose, tail and underbelly. There’s also a helpful travel guide about Emirates’ hub Dubai; EmiratesRED; the world’s first inflight TV shopping channel; and a range of personal development content including LinkedIn Learning.

Emirates continually updates its inflight content, adding hundreds of movies, TV shows, podcasts, and music channels each month to its extensive entertainment library.

Passengers enjoying an Emirates flight can access a world-class entertainment library with more than 45 Academy Award® winning films, 5,000 channels of on-demand entertainment, over 1,500 movies and 1,500 hours of TV, as well as music, podcasts and audiobooks across 40 languages, 5 channels of live TV including news from BBC, CNN and Sky News Arabia, and two channels with live sports coverage- Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra.
