MOSI UNLEASHES 50 YEARS OF THUNDER IN LIVINGSTONE

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Livingstone, home to the mighty Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls, once again roared to life on Saturday 26 April 2025, as thousands of festivalgoers from across Zambia and beyond descended upon the tourist capital city for the eighth edition of Mosi Day of Thunder. This year’s celebration saw a record-breaking crowd of over 8,500+ people in attendance, making it one of the most electrifying editions to date.
This year’s celebration drew a thunderous crowd of over 8,500 people in attendance, making it one of the most electrifying editions to date.
However, this year’s festival was more than just a musical event; it was a celebration of Zambia’s rich heritage, culture, and natural beauty – brought to life by the iconic Mosi Premium Lager, a beer that has proudly carried the Zambian spirit since 1975.
A Weekend of Music, Culture, and Thunder
From the energetic bar crawl on Friday night to the grand finale sunset session on Sunday, Zambia’s tourist capital was alive with excitement and culture. Hotels, lodges, and guesthouses were fully booked, restaurants bustled with visitors, and the city’s vibrant markets saw an influx of excited tourists and music lovers.
The highlight of the weekend was the Mosi Day of Thunder Festival, where festivalgoers filled the grounds with contagious energy, celebrating the best of Zambian music, culture, and identity. For the first time, the festival featured two stages: an iconic Main Stage lit up by local stars and the all-new Mosi Light Up Zone, offering fans an even more electrifying experience with some of Zambia’s best DJs.
Zambian Breweries Head of Marketing Susan Luneta, said, “Mosi Day of Thunder is all about bringing people together. We had an amazing artist lineup, appreciating the overall Zambian talent in the country. This year, we introduced two stages to unleash 50 years of Thunder, celebrating Mosi right here in the home of Mosi — Livingstone.”
Mosi Premium Lager has a long history across Zambia; “it is made by Zambians for Zambians. MDOT is not only about the cheer but also about thriving and creating a future with more cheers, tourism, and business opportunities,” Ms Luneta stated.
Thunder on Stage
The eighth edition of Zambia’s biggest music festival showcased two electrifying stages, celebrating Zambian artistry like never before.
The Light Up Zone Stage pulsed with an eclectic mix of house, Amapiano, and Afro beats from crowd favourites including DJ Sliqque, DJ Amma, DJ Clap, DJ My Boyfriend, Team Distant, DJ Ill, Daniel Go Crazy, and the Kreative Natives.
Then came the heart of the celebration: the MDOT Main Stage. Here, Zambian music legends and rising stars lit up the night, including DJ Mickie, DJ Dell Fresh, Jah Boy, Izrael, JC Kalinks, Jae Cash, Triple M, Towela Kaira, Chanda Na Kay, Y Celeb, and Yo Maps.
Local artist Jah Boy, hailing from Livingstone, opened the main stage with a soul-stirring performance. “As a local artist from Livingstone, it has always been my dream to perform on this stage, and it happened today,” he said.
Vibrant songstress, Towela Kaira also shared her excitement for the music festival: “Mosi Day of Thunder symbolises local festivities, a country tradition that you would not want to miss! I urge Zambian Breweries to keep on supporting good music; local is laka.”
“The city of Livingstone is always welcoming. I’m here often, at least every quarter. Celebrating 50 years of Mosi is no child’s play. It is a huge milestone for such a big brand, and I see a lot of growth ahead. Zambians are doing something truly remarkable by celebrating their local pride and heritage through Mosi,” shared a fan who travelled from Botswana to attend the festival.
Livingstone Shines: A Gem of Tourism and Heritage
Livingstone rose magnificently to the occasion. The mighty Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls, in full splendour, provided a breathtaking backdrop to the festivities. Many festivalgoers took advantage of their visit to explore the iconic waterfalls the day after the concert, marvelling at one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
The city’s hospitality was on full display. Guests enjoyed the thunderous music as well as the warmth of the people, the scenic beauty of the land, and the rich cultural experiences that Livingstone offers. Local businesses, from hotels to markets, experienced a significant boost this weekend.
Her Worship, the Mayor of Livingstone, Constance Nalishebo Muleabai, expressed the city’s pride: “We have been having this festival each year, and we are proud as a city to be the host of the Mosi Day of Thunder. Mosi Day of Thunder is the biggest event in the city of Livingstone. We have seen buses flocking into the city; all hotels and lodges are fully booked.”
“To the city of Livingstone, it helps local businesses; it is an increase to the economic growth of the city and to the business houses in Livingstone. Mosi clocks 50 years in existence, and it is being celebrated here where we celebrate culture, heritage, and tourism,” she added.
Mosi Day of Thunder continues to put Livingstone on the world map, inviting visitors to discover the heart and soul of Zambia.
50 Years of Proudly Zambian Moments
This year’s Mosi Day of Thunder was particularly special as it marked a golden milestone — 50 years of Mosi Premium Lager. For half a century, Mosi has stood as a symbol of resilience, unity, and pride, capturing the true spirit of Zambia in every bottle.
Mosi is not only part of Zambian Breweries’ history; it is woven into the fabric of Zambia’s national story. And there was no better place to celebrate this legacy than in Livingstone, the home of the mighty Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls and the heartland of Mosi itself.
From the local farmers who grow the finest ingredients to the passionate brewing teams and dedicated distributors across the country, Mosi’s journey has always been rooted in the community. That community spirit was on full display this past weekend: in every cheer, every chorus, and every unforgettable moment shared beneath the Livingstone skies.
And while the weekend was all about celebration, Zambian Breweries reminded festivalgoers that true enjoyment also comes with care and responsibility.
Cheers Pa Easy
Zambian Breweries, through its flagship brand Mosi, once again partnered with the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) and Zambia Police Services to ensure that celebration was coupled with responsibility. Festivalgoers were encouraged to drink smart and practice road safety throughout the weekend, echoing Mosi’s ongoing commitment to “Cheers Pa Easy” — celebrating responsibly and safely.
Mosi Light, the lighter beer alternative, offered fans a way to savour the flavour and stay mindful while enjoying the festivities.
The eighth edition of Mosi Day of Thunder was made possible by the incredible support of Zambian Breweries’ partners and sponsors, including Coca-Cola, Yango Zambia, and Robertsons Spices.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Tourism and Arts, the National Heritage Conservation Commission (NHCC), Her Worship the Mayor of Livingstone, and the wonderful people of Livingstone for embracing the Mosi Day of Thunder and making it their own. Together, we created memories that will echo like thunder for years to come,” said Zambian Breweries Legal and Corporate Affairs Director Tawanda S. Hojane.
“As we close this chapter of celebration, we are reminded that Mosi Premium Lager is not just a beer; it is a bridge that connects people, a celebration of Zambia’s beauty, and a beacon of Zambian pride,” Mr Hojane concluded.
