FIRST QUANTUM DOMINATES 2025 ZRA TAXPAYER AWARDS

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – First Quantum Minerals and its subsidiaries have swept the top honors at the 2025 Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Taxpayers Appreciation Day, reinforcing the mining giant’s position as a cornerstone of the Zambian economy.

The FQM group received the Best Collaborator award, while its subsidiary FQM Trident Ltd was recognized as the Highest Tax Contributor in the Mining Sector. Additionally, Kansanshi Mining was honoured with the award for Highest Tax Contributor (all taxes).

Speaking after receiving the awards, Kansanshi Mining Tax Superintendent Nicholas Mwape said the accolades recognized First Quantum Minerals’ commitment to excellence in tax compliance, responsible business conduct, and continued contribution to national development.

“The first award was presented to FQM Trident Ltd, recognized as the highest tax contributor in the mining sector. This distinction reflects Trident’s leadership, consistency, and significant role in supporting Zambia’s mining revenue base. It affirms the strength of our cooperation and our dedication to contributing meaningfully to the nation’s fiscal stability.

The second award honored Kansanshi Mining Plc as the highest contributor to national revenue under all taxes. This achievement stands as a testament to Kansanshi’s substantial operational footprint, long-standing reliability, and unwavering commitment to fulfilling tax obligations across all tax types. Kansanshi’s contribution continues to play a critical role in reinforcing Zambia’s economic foundation,” said Mr Mwape.

Mr Mwape noted that the third award, Best Collaborator, which was presented to First Quantum Minerals Operations Ltd, acknowledges the company’s productive engagement, openness, and effective partnership with the ZRA.

“This accolade underscores our commitment to transparent interactions, timely compliance, and constructive dialogue that strengthens Zambia’s tax administration framework. Together, these three awards highlight our Group’s unified commitment to integrity, accountability, and national development. As a Group, we reaffirm our pledge to strengthen our collaborative relationship with the ZRA, uphold high standards of tax compliance, and continue investing in long-term growth that supports both our operations and the national fiscus,” he added.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, emphasised the critical nature of taxation.

“In a civilized society, each member of the community is asked to put aside something for the common good. Today, given where we are, we have many more demands of a common nation that we need to finance. The money does not come from government; the money comes from you and me, the citizens. We must pay tax to drive on the roads; we must pay the taxes if we are going to the hospitals. It is you who produces the money to put into the commonwealth. To the companies who pay taxes, we say to you: thank you,” said Dr Musokotwane.

ZRA Commissioner General Dingani Banda commended the compliant taxpayers and acknowledged the Authority’s partners.

“ZRA continues to promote best practices through organisations such as ATAF, SADC, and COMESA, thus strengthening Zambia’s leadership in regional tax administration. Together we are shaping a tax administration that is world-class, citizen-focused, and future-ready. Tonight marks a celebration, an occasion to take pride and share our dedication to developing Zambia. As we celebrate, let’s renew our commitment to voluntary compliance and domestic resource mobilization, since Zambia’s future depends on these initiatives,” said Mr Banda.

FQM believes the awards highlight the mining firm’s commitment to integrity, compliance, and meaningful contribution to Zambia’s economic growth. The company remains dedicated to strengthening partnerships with the government and regulators while continuing to uphold the highest standards in all its operations.

First Quantum Minerals remains commited to strengthening its collaborative relationship with ZRA, upholding high standards of tax compliance and transparency, and continue contributing to Zambia’s socio-economic progress and invest in long-term growth that supports both its operations and the national fiscals.
