Airtel Money Launches Insurance Hub to Expand Affordable, Digital Insurance Access in Zambia

Lusaka, Zambia – Airtel Money Zambia today officially launched the Airtel Money Insurance Hub, a one-stop digital platform that will now allow customers to conveniently access a wide range of insurance services directly from their mobile phones.
The marketplace brings together leading insurance providers to offer Life and Health Insurance, Motor Insurance, Travel Insurance, Home and Property Insurance, and other protection solutions – all accessible anytime, anywhere on the Airtel Money platforms.
At the media launch, Insurance Association of Zambia (IAZ) Executive Director Dr Mwashika Nkaka applauded Airtel and Insurance companies for the collaboration. He further reaffirmed the association’s commitment to building a strong, transparent, and inclusive insurance sector that supports national development.
Speaking at the media launch, Airtel Money Country Director, Mr. Andrew Chuma, described the platform as a major step forward in making insurance more accessible, affordable, and inclusive for Zambians.
“Today is not just about launching a new product,” said Mr. Chuma.
“It is about access, protection, dignity, and peace of mind for millions of our customers. Insurance has traditionally felt complex and out of reach for many people, but with the Airtel Money Insurance Hub, we are changing that.”
Mr. Chuma highlighted the affordability and convenience of the new platform, noting that customers can now obtain insurance cover at price points designed for everyday Zambians.
“Through Airtel Money, customers can now access life insurance cover for as low as K20 per month, travel insurance from as low as K5, and both Comprehensive and Third-party motor insurance with instant delivery of the motor insurance cover note directly to their mobile phone,” he said. “This can be done from anywhere, whether at home or in the office – without paperwork or physical visits.”
The Airtel Money Insurance Marketplace is delivered in partnership with several leading insurance companies, including Professional Insurance, NICO Insurance, ZISC General Insurance, General Alliance, Hollard Insurance, Klapton Insurance, Indigo Insurance, One Life Insurance, and Madison Life Insurance.
According to Mr. Chuma, the multi-insurer model ensures that customers benefit from choice, competition, and trusted providers, all within a single digital platform on Airtel App and 115 Menu. Customers simply has to dial *115#, select Option 7, then Option 2 to access the Airtel Insurance Hub.
“This marketplace is built on collaboration. By bringing together reputable insurers on one platform, we are giving customers choice while maintaining confidence and trust,” he said.
The platform is powered by Inshuwa Technologies and MBA, whose digital infrastructure enables seamless integration, instant policy issuance, and secure transactions.
Inshuwa Technologies CEO Mr Mwangala Mwiya represented Hobbiton Technologies Chief Marketing Officer Mimi Thiba Lungu said the partnership demonstrates how technology can remove traditional barriers to insurance access. Similarly, Master Business Associates (MBA) CEO Ms Cindy Chibambo emphasised the importance of reliability and scalability in supporting a nationwide digital insurance ecosystem.
The launch was officiated by guest of honour Registrar and CEO Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) Ms Namakau Ntini, represented by Manager Prudential Supervision Insurance Department Stanslous Bowa who welcomed the initiative as a positive development for the insurance sector..
“Digital distribution platforms such as the Airtel Money Insurance Hub play an important role in expanding access to insurance while maintaining consumer protection. We are encouraged to see innovation that operates within regulatory frameworks and promotes transparency, fairness, and trust.”
The event was also graced by the presence of CEOs and representatives from all the partnering Insurance companies.
Mr. Chuma noted that the marketplace aligns with Zambia’s broader financial inclusion objectives by extending insurance services to customers who were previously excluded due to cost, distance, or complexity.
“At Airtel Money, we are building a complete digital financial ecosystem – covering payments, savings, credit, and now insurance,” he said.
“True financial inclusion is not just about transactions; it is about protecting lives, assets, and livelihoods.”
