First Quantum Demonstrates Measurable Impact in Zambia at CSR, ESG & Sustainability Awards

LUSAKA ZAMBIA – As industry leaders convened at the CSR Network Zambia Conference under the theme: “Driving Impact and Sustainability through Corporate Social Responsibility,” subsidiaries of First Quantum demonstrated how responsible mining can translate dialogue into structured, measurable results.

The conference underscored the need for corporate responsibility to move beyond goodwill initiatives toward accountable and sustainable impact aligned with national development priorities. For FQM, this approach is embedded in core business strategy, governance systems and operational decision-making.

At the 7th CSR, ESG and Sustainability Awards organised by the ESRA Network; Kansanshi Mining PLC and FQM Trident Limited collectively received six awards across education, agriculture, financial inclusion and biodiversity conservation, recognition that reflects the practical implementation of ESG principles across operations.

In addition to the corporate awards, FQM’s Kansanshi Mine Coordinator for Biodiversity and Mine Site Rehabilitation, Dr Jackson Katampi, received the Executive Leadership Award – Impact Leader of the Year (Male) for advancing leadership in environmental restoration initiatives.

“Leadership is never a solo effort; it requires a dedicated team,” said Dr Katampi. “This award belongs to the entire FQM family and reflects our commitment to restoring ecosystems while empowering communities. It motivates us to continue embedding sustainability into every aspect of our operations.”

Speaking at the ceremony, First Quantum Mining and Operations Limited Compliance Specialist Arnold Malambo said the recognition reinforces the importance of embedding sustainability into business models.

“The discussions at the CSR Network Zambia Conference reinforced that, sustainability must be integrated into core operations not treated as an add-on. Our education, agricultural, financial inclusion and biodiversity programmes are structured to strengthen long-term community resilience and align with national development objectives,” he said.

Trident Foundation Superintendent for Social Performance and Risk Management, Winnie Kakunta, noted that the company’s sustainability framework reflects a deliberate shift from traditional CSR to integrated ESG practice.

“While CSR is often viewed as goodwill; a demonstration of responsible investment, at FQM it goes much deeper. Dedicated departments, governance systems and performance frameworks ensure environmental stewardship and social responsibility are embedded into everyday operations,” she said.

She added that aligning corporate responsibility with national and industry standards strengthens accountability, ensures measurable and lasting impact.

As Zambia’s private sector increasingly embraces structured ESG reporting and responsible investment standards, First Quantum remains committed to driving impact and sustainability through responsible mining that contributes meaningfully to community empowerment, environmental resilience and national prosperity.
