Airtel Money Launches Airtel Money Village Banking to Digitise Community Savings in Zambia

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – Airtel Money Zambia has launched Airtel Money Village Banking, a digital solution aimed at transforming how village banking groups, cooperatives, and savings groups manage and grow their funds through a secure, transparent, and efficient digital platform.
Airtel Money Country Director, Mr Andrew Chuma, said village banking remains central to financial inclusion in Zambia.
“Village banking has long been the backbone of community savings in Zambia. With Airtel Money Village Banking, we are strengthening this trusted model by embedding technology that makes it safer, more transparent, and more convenient for every member,” Mr Chuma said.
The solution allows groups to register digitally on the My Airtel App and seamlessly carry out deposits, withdrawals, and member contributions directly from the Airtel Money menu. Members benefit from full visibility of both individual and group transactions, enhancing accountability and trust within savings groups.
Mr Chuma noted that the platform significantly reduces risks linked to cash handling and manual record-keeping.
“By digitising village banking, we are removing common risks while giving members real-time visibility of transactions, digital statements, and greater confidence in how their group funds are managed,” he added.
Airtel Money Village Banking is designed for both rural and urban communities, where village banking plays a critical role in supporting livelihoods and economic resilience. The solution contributes to Zambia’s financial inclusion objectives and supports the broader digitalisation of financial services under the oversight of the Bank of Zambia.
The service reflects Airtel Money’s commitment to responsible innovation, consumer protection, and inclusive growth.
“Our aim is not to change how communities save together, but to strengthen it. Airtel Money Village Banking provides a reliable digital foundation that supports trust, discipline, and sustainable growth,” Mr Chuma said.
Airtel Money Village Banking is now available and can be accessed via the Airtel Money *115# menu under Option 7: Savings and Investment
