FQM BACKS ZAMBIA’S INVESTMENT DRIVE WITH K1M DONATION TO ZDA CONFERENCE

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA – First Quantum Minerals (FQM) has underscored its long-term commitment to Zambia’s economic development with a K1 million donation to the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) for its forthcoming Invest Zambia International Conference (IZIC).
The contribution is aimed at complementing the government’s efforts to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and will support the successful hosting of the inaugural international investment forum later this month.
During the official handover of the cheque, FQM Country Manager Anthony Mukutuma highlighted the company’s deep-rooted history in the nation.
“FQM has been operating in Zambia since 1996, and next year will mark our 30th anniversary in the country. That is three decades of sustained capital investment, job creation, contributions to the Treasury, and investing in local communities. This level and tenure of investment is a testament to the confidence that investors have in Zambia as an investment destination and in the vital work the ZDA does to attract and support new investors. We are therefore delighted to be part-sponsors of this conference, which we believe will bring more private sector participation, more jobs, and increased contributions to the Zambian economy,” said Mr Mukutuma.
Receiving the donation, ZDA Director General Albert Halwampa expressed his gratitude for FQM’s continued partnership and its significant role in the national economy.
“FQM’s contribution to the treasury and its continuous investment are a huge milestone for this country. We are very proud of your innovation, job creation, and commitment to growing this economy. This sponsorship will go a long way in ensuring the success of IZIC. We established this conference to build on the momentum created by His Excellency, President Hakainde Hichilema, who has tirelessly championed Zambia as an investment hub,” he said.
Mr Halwampa added that the stable and predictable policy environment is fostering unprecedented investor interest.
“The conference theme, ‘Driving Generational Transformative Investments through JVs and Partnerships’, is particularly fitting. IZIC will be an annual event, providing a crucial platform for investors, policymakers, and the business community to network, collaborate, and chart a course for Zambia’s prosperous future, including the ambitious goal of producing three million tonnes of copper,” he continued.
