FQM Trident Champions Wellness and Unity at Kalumbila Challenge 2025

Kalumbila, Zambia – FQM Trident Limited, a subsidiary of First Quantum Minerals (FQM), proudly hosted the Kalumbila Challenge 2025, a landmark event that underscored the company’s commitment to employee health and wellness, community engagement, and diversity inclusion.
Held on October 4 at the Sentinel School grounds in Kalumbila District, the event attracted over 3,000 participants and attendees from across Zambia, cementing its place as one of the region’s premier sporting occasions.
“The Kalumbila Challenge is an opportunity for us to come together, celebrate achievements, push boundaries, and foster connections that drive progress,” said Kalumbila Town Council Chairman, Shadrick Munjunga.
The Kalumbila Challenge embodies FQM Trident’s people first philosophy, emphasising holistic well-being for employees and the broader community. Mining must benefit people first is more than a credo for First Quantum Minerals, it is a guiding principle clearly reflected in initiatives like the Kalumbila Challenge, which promotes physical activity, health awareness, and mental wellness among participants.
“Whether you are a participant competing with passion, a supporter cheering with enthusiasm, or a partner contributing to the success of this event, you are integral to making the Kalumbila Challenge a memorable and impactful experience,” added Mr. Munjunga.
The 2025 edition showcased exceptional community engagement, reflecting FQM Trident’s unwavering dedication to sustainable development in Kalumbila. Proceeds from the event will go toward enhancing the Wumi Mini Hospital, a healthcare facility built by First Quantum Minerals and handed over to the government earlier this year. This contribution will strengthen essential healthcare services in the area, reinforcing the company’s commitment to leaving a lasting, positive impact on local infrastructure.
A hallmark of this year’s Challenge was its strong focus on inclusivity, featuring a special category for persons with disabilities alongside participation by senior citizens, individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. This deliberate inclusivity underscores FQM Trident’s belief that everyone regardless of age or ability deserves the opportunity to participate, belong, and be celebrated.
The success of the Kalumbila Challenge 2025 was made possible through the support of 35 partner sponsors, as well as the tireless efforts of local leaders, event organizers, volunteers, and medical and safety teams. FQM Trident extends its heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to making the event a resounding success.
“The Kalumbila Challenge perfectly aligns with our philosophy of putting people at the center of everything we do. It demonstrates how prioritising people creates opportunities for growth, resilience, and pride,” said FQM Trident Assistant General Manager, Frederic Wouters. “I would like to thank every individual and organisation that made today possible.”
Beyond medals and trophies, the Kalumbila Challenge is building a legacy of community pride, friendship, and wellness promotion. It is evolving into a cherished tradition that demonstrates how sport can unite people in meaningful ways, inspiring future generations.
FQM Trident congratulates all winners and participants you are all champions and looks forward to an even bigger celebration of health, unity, and community spirit at the Kalumbila Challenge 2026.
